Seems like I can do it for just about 500 kits for $500.
1. Roll black plastic 4mil 3ft x 50ft = $10 (/3=1yd x 17ft=17 kits)
$10 x 30= 510 plastic rolls for $300
2. Razors 100 individual wrapped for $7 = 5 boxes (500 blades) = $35
3. Gloves 100 for $4 = 5 boxes = $20
4. String $25
5. Soap 500 1.2oz bars for $83
6. Ziploc Bags. 500 quart sized for $33
7. Instruction sheet. $25

I love your blog and I am learning a lot from you. As a jack-of-all-trades program manager, my interests touch upon several sectors including health and after reviewing the top development priorities in Laos I’ve become more and more interested in helping the field of maternal and child health in Laos. Just a thought on the cost of cbk’s here, and perhaps you’ve touched upon this already in a post I haven’t read yet, but have you inquired about corporate donations from companies that produce these items? Maybe they have a corporate sponsorship or philanthropic program?
Thank you for all the useful knowledge you’re sharing. I am convinced that your dedicated efforts will help improve many lives. We need more people to act with a mission and compassion like you. Thank you.

Thanks so much for your comment. Now that I am planning this project in southern Laos, I am thinking more carefully about where the inputs to the kits will come from. While there are advantages to sourcing in the US (donations) and assembling (volunteer events), I’m exploring sourcing and assembling in Laos, so that the project is as sustainable as possible. That having been said, I am unclear about the quality/availability of these basic items in Laos. For the pilot program, I may buy in Thailand and assemble in Laos. Stay tuned. And thanks so very much for your feedback.
