We have had great successes in 2013: 2,000 kits delivered, 16 Nurses and 20 Village Volunteers trained.

To help us keep the momentum in 2014, we need to raise $7,500.

For that sum, we can train 10 nurses, 25 Village Volunteers and provide 500 kits.

Please join our mission to make birth safer.  For just $5 you can supply a birth kit that prevents infection and makes birth safer.

We’ll have fun themes each week:

  • Week 1: Mom Power: We are thrilled that World Moms Blog, Multicultural Kids Blog, and Girls Globe are teaming up with us to spread the word.  Blog posts, Twitter Party, and lots of learning about birth in Laos and around the world!

  • Week 2: Share the Love: Valentine’s Day cards sent to the mom in your life for donations $50+.

  • Week 3: Learn about Laos:  Food, culture, dress — all the things that make Laos such an amazing country!  Donate $50 and be eligible for a Lao Cookbook Giveaway!

  • Week 4: Home Stretch:  In the final week, we will pull out all the stops to meet our $7,500 goal!!

Clean Birth Kits Update: Texts from Nurses Coming In

IMG_0105Happy to report the texts from the nurses in their remote clinics keep rolling in.

We have now heard from 7 of 15 clinics about the # of kits distributed in July: 82 all together.

1 Naborn clinic: gave 21
2 Kokbok clinic: gave 7
3 Kaza clinic: gave 15
4 Beungxai clinic: gave 6
5 Phatang clinic: gave 15
6 Toumlee-thong clinic: gave 6
7 Pachoudorn clinic: gave 5

If we double this number, assuming the other 1/2 of clinics are using as many, we will have distributed 160 or so kits in July.  Therefore, over six months, the clinics should use nearly all of the 1,000 kits currently available to them in Laos.  The half-year Clean Birth Kits re-stock is scheduled for December 20 in Salavan, Laos — perfect timing.

Twitter Party. Before: Huh? After: Fun!

Last night Jen Burden, founder of World Moms Blog and my awesome partner for good, hosted a Twitter Party for CleanBirth.org.

My friend Cate texted me in response to a FB post pre-party:

A. I don’t know what a twitter party is

B. Are you still up at 9pm?

She hit it right on the head. No real clue about the first and yeah for sure I am tucked up in bed by 9pm.

9pm comes, I’m logged on with my #worldmomsblog at the ready, waiting… And then it happened, +/- 20 advocates for maternal health showed up. Jen was the perfect moderator: welcoming newcomers, asking interesting questions, and clarifying points. And I got to spread the word about CleanBirth.org in an interactive way.

So, Cate, now we know what a Twitter Party is and I did the whole thing in my PJs:)
